Kaymac was featured on Channel 4, Episode 3 of the series Britain’s Scenic Railways on the Redbridge Viaduct in Galashiels, Scotland, scour protection project.

The structure featured on the show, Redbridge Viaduct, is an arched viaduct carrying two Rail lines between Galashiels and Tweedbank. The sour repairs involved the removal of the riverbed material from between the piers and a scour mattress installed to protect the piers from fast-flowing water. Following the installation of the mattress, the original riverbed material was reinstated to the original level.

To allow our team to work safely, a portable dam system was used to reduce the river flow and create a manageable working area at each pier, providing protection for our items of plant, and our in-house qualified commercial divers to install the permanent works underwater.

The River Tweed is susceptible to high water levels and fast flows, making it a difficult and far from straightforward project… but it’s what we do!

The project was successfully delivered and was a dream project for our engineers, but it was a challenging one, and so it’s was fantastic to be recognised for our specialist involvement on National TV!
