Sectors
As an island nation, marine and civil engineering shapes much of our lives. Due to this and our four decades of experience, our specialist involvement spans many major sectors across the UK.
Transport Sector: Rail and Highways
Trading as specialists in the transport sector since 1989, we are experts in delivering challenging marine infrastructure solutions for both rail and highway projects, minimizing disruption to essential services.
In the rail sector, Kaymac is renowned for technical delivery, innovative expertise, and sustainable solutions, working against the clock during planned rail stoppages. For projects where rail tracks cross culverts, rivers, or other watercourses, Kaymac provides temporary works, inspection surveys, repairs, and protection of these vital structures. We are RISQS-audited and verified, and all Kaymac operatives hold Personal Track Safety (PTS) training as per current legislation, supporting our role as specialist subcontractors. For more on our rail capabilities, please visit our Rail Engineering Services page.
The highways division focuses on ensuring the safety and stability of structures spanning watercourses or culverts. Our civil engineers offer solutions for culvert clearance, temporary floating access systems, and more. Kaymac has been entrusted with underwater inspections and repairs of numerous structures managed by NMWTRA (North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency), SWTRA (South Wales Trunk Road Agency), and Highways England, including bridges and retaining walls.

Kaymac started out in 1976 supplying diving services to ports, harbours and shipping agents. We are still the first choice for this industry, but now we service clients across the UK not just for diving operations, but the full sustainable package: Diving, civil engineering, marine construction and mechanical solutions.
Kaymac are specialists in the inspection, repair, conditional reporting, installation and removal of lock gates and have carried out numerous projects ranging from locations in inland waterways to large container terminals. For many years, Kaymac has been retained by the Bristol Port Company, providing lock gate services in Avonmouth and the Royal Portbury Dock. We regularly provide underwater lock gate inspections including condition reports for cills, cill rubbers, quoins, mitres, pintles, bolts, masonry and all subsea components both visually where possible or by touch to test for integrity, strength and fouling. We are also DENSO Pile Wrapping approved installers.

Since we were established, Kaymac have been contracted by power stations around the UK. This includes being involved in the design and installation of a cofferdam and fish deterrent system at the largest gas fired power station in Europe, Pembroke Power Station. In order to reduce the amount of fish entering the cooling water intakes and entering the fish return system, we supplied sustainable solutions to this project. We have also been involved in the commissioning of Hinckley Point B and early contractor involvement a Hinckley Point C, as well as being contracted for marine civil works for the nuclear decommissioning of Magnox sites.

Environment
Climate change is increasing pressure on maritime, coastal, and waterway infrastructure and assets. This means our clients National Resource Wales, The Environment Agency and their delivery partners need a contractor whose approach focuses on sustainable solutions such as repairing and minimising current and evolving risks. Our approach towards environmental projects involves us using the natural environment to help reduce coastal erosion and river flooding, whilst protecting the wildlife and natural environment.
