The works that were required at Richmond pumping station consisted of the construction of a new manhole 1500 in diameter and 35mt of 375ml twin wall pipe, station and steel ductile pipe installed through the river wall on to a rock roll apron.

To build the manhole 4mt long sheet piles were installed around the existing pipe with the use of a 21t excavator that was fitted with a pilling hammer we excavated to a depth of 2.8mt deep inside to formation level and the manhole was erected up to ground level and the sheet piles removed and installed to the trench run and excavated to the correct depth for the 375ml pipe to be installed this was then backfilled with 20ml chippings and crushed concrete to ground level.

We then sheet piled for the pumping station.  This consisted of 5.5mt Larsen sheet piles to form a 5mt x5mt cofferdam ,this was then excavated to a depth of 5mt and braces fitted at 0.5mt and 4mt to support the sheet piles ,Concrete was placed in the excavation to the correct level and the prefabricated pumping station was then lifted in place 300ml of concrete was placed around the pumping station for support and the connection was then made between the 375ml pipe and the pumping station we then backfilled again with crushed concrete .We then core drilled through the wall of the river and fitted the steel pipe to level a rock roll matures was placed on the river bank and secured in place to prevent erosion of the river back when the water is being discharged from the pumping station.
