Working in a Confined Space

Working in a Confined Space

From underwater inspections to culvert clearing and repairs and re-lining, our confined space services are carried out by trained and accredited operatives.

Trained and Accredited

Working in confined spaces can be hazardous. Operatives need a current and working knowledge of breathing equipment, rescue and recovery techniques. For your peace of mind, our entire engineering and inspection team is trained to the Confined Space High Risk and Mines Rescue level.

Safe and Compliant

All of our confined space work meets the HSE Confined Space Regulations 1997 Approved Code of Practice. Kaymac has worked in this area for many years, including some very challenging remits. Our teams can carry out detailed principal, topographical and conditional examinations, combining diving and civil operations to provide you with a detailed survey.

Project Management

Our friendly and experienced management team will fulfil your project. Our engineers are on hand to offer advice about your project and plan a complete solution. If you simply want access systems or equipment, call us for that too.

Confined Space Services

Structural inspection & video survey
Confined spaces pose no problem for our experienced and accredited operatives, who can carry out inspections and surveys using the latest technology.

Culvert cleaning and de-silting
Culverts can be cleaned and cleared to extend their functional lifespan, saving money and reducing risk.

Culvert line & level surveys
Our confined space experts can assess the condition of ageing culverts and recommend the appropriate maintenance.

Culvert lining, refurbishment & repair
Did you know that our culvert re-lining technique has been used all over England and Wales? We are specialists in refurbishing culverts and work closely with many clients in the public and rail sectors.

Drain clearance
Is there anything that our confined space operatives can’t do?  Clearing drains is demanding but necessary.

Lock gate inspection, repair and de-silting
We’ll check your lock gates physically and visually, providing a detailed survey about their condition and recommended solutions.

Water jetting
Our confined space operatives are trained to deploy a wide range of equipment and techniques, so we usually have the right specialist for your project.

Repointing
Above and below the water line, we will carry out repointing, pressure grouting, and other repairs in confined spaces.

Nuclear Environment Confined Space Working

In 2019, Kaymac Marine was appointed principal contractor by Magnox to seal the cooling water culverts at Oldbury Power Station. The project involved challenging tidal conditions and the need to correct a previously failed attempt at sealing. We devised a solution involving a temporary concrete plug to create a dry working environment, allowing the permanent sealing to be completed without interruption.

We implemented a bespoke steel shuttering system, equipped with breather tubes to maintain quality during concrete placement. Once cured, the temporary plug facilitated the installation of a permanent plug, ensuring the site was safely decommissioned, and one step closer to the re-generation journey.
